Gujarat Titans’ fast bowler, Mohammed Siraj, is set to make an impact in IPL 2025 as he prepares to play for his new team against Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Despite missing out on selection for the 2025 Champions Trophy, Siraj is focusing on his IPL performance rather than dwelling on the snub.

Focusing on Performance, Not Selection

In an interview with Revsportz, Siraj shared his perspective on selection, stating that he cannot control the selectors’ decisions, but he can control his performance on the field. He emphasized the importance of focusing on his bowling and contributing to his team’s success rather than stressing over selection matters.

Selection is not in my hands. What is in my hands is taking wickets and performing for my team. I will give my 100%. If I start thinking about selection, it might affect my performance. In the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia, just after the IPL I was too focused on selection and trying to bowl well but things didn’t go as I had hoped,” Siraj explained.

A More Mature Approach to the Game

Over time, Siraj has learned the importance of focusing solely on his game rather than external factors. He acknowledged that shifting his mindset has helped him stay calm under pressure and perform consistently.

“Later, I realized that the only things in my control are my bowling and giving my 100%. The most important thing is executing my plans correctly. Learning this over the years has helped me a lot in improving my game,” he added.

Prioritizing Fitness and Bowling

Although Siraj was a key fast bowler in the past, he was not selected for India’s 2025 Champions Trophy squad. The tournament saw India emerge victorious against New Zealand in the final.

Despite the disappointment of missing out, Siraj used the time to improve his fitness and refine his bowling. He also played in the Ranji Trophy to gain match practice and maintain his form.

“My preparation is going well. During my break, I worked on my bowling and fitness. After the Ranji Trophy, I focused on training and improving my game. Whenever I have the ball in my hand, I give my full effort. Apart from that, I don’t chase things beyond my control,” Siraj concluded.
