IPL 2025: Hardik Pandya Slapped with Rs 12 Lakh Fine for Slow Over-Rate in GT vs MI Clash
Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya has been fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during their IPL 2025 match against Gujarat Titans. This was Pandya’s first game of the season after serving a previous suspension, but his return didn’t go as planned as MI suffered a 36-run defeat at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday.
Slow Over-Rate Costs Hardik Pandya Rs 12 Lakh

The Indian Premier League (IPL) governing body imposed the fine under Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate violations. Since this was MI’s first over-rate offence of the season, the fine was limited to Rs 12 lakh.
“As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Pandya was fined INR 12 lakhs,” stated an official release from the IPL.
Mumbai Indians Struggle in Chase

After losing their opening match against Chennai Super Kings, where Suryakumar Yadav led in Pandya’s absence, MI aimed for redemption. Winning the toss, they chose to bowl first on a black soil pitch in Ahmedabad. However, Gujarat Titans managed to post a competitive total of 196/7 in 20 overs.
Mumbai’s batting lineup struggled to keep up with the required run rate, finishing at 160/6. Pandya, who was expected to anchor the chase, had a disappointing outing, scoring a scratchy 11 runs off 17 balls before getting dismissed.
Will Hardik Pandya Face Another Ban?

Last season, Mumbai Indians faced consequences for repeated over-rate violations, which led to Pandya’s suspension and heavy fines, including an INR 30 lakh deduction from his match fee. The remaining playing XI and the Impact Player were also penalized.
However, ahead of IPL 2025, the BCCI revised the over-rate penalty rules. Under the updated guidelines, captains will now receive demerit points and fines instead of facing suspensions for slow over-rates. This means Pandya is unlikely to be banned, but repeated infractions could lead to increased financial penalties and potential disciplinary actions.
