MS Dhoni Keeps Fans Guessing About IPL Future: “I Don’t Know…”
Updated: May 1, 2025 | Chennai

Is this MS Dhoni’s final season in the IPL? The legendary Chennai Super Kings captain continues to keep fans and pundits on edge, offering a cryptic response when asked about his future.

Ahead of CSK’s crucial clash against Punjab Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday, Dhoni sparked buzz during the toss when former New Zealand cricketer Danny Morrison popped the million-dollar question: “Does that mean you’re coming back next year as well?”

Dhoni’s reply? “I don’t know, I’m coming for the next game (laughs).”

The 42-year-old, who has led CSK to five IPL titles, didn’t confirm or deny whether the 2025 season would be his last, maintaining his trademark suspense.

He also reflected on CSK’s underwhelming performance this season. “There’s the pride factor. Most of the games are at home, and we haven’t made the most of that advantage. We’re a team that doesn’t usually make a lot of changes, but this year has been different. It’s the first season after a fresh auction, so we’re still figuring out the best combinations.”

CSK are currently struggling at the bottom of the table with just two wins from nine matches, and their playoff hopes hang by a thread. A loss against Punjab Kings could officially knock them out of the tournament.

Punjab, who had their previous match against KKR washed out, won the toss and opted to bowl first. They brought in Harpreet Brar and Suryansh Shedge, replacing Prabhsimran Singh and Glenn Maxwell. CSK went in unchanged.

PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer said, “We’ll bowl first. The boys are upbeat despite recent setbacks. Unfortunately, one of our players has a fractured finger, and we’re yet to finalise a replacement.”

As the season inches toward its conclusion, Dhoni’s fans continue to hope this won’t be his last dance in yellow.
